I’m a very happy girl – my New Year has started with a brand-new office – at the bottom of the garden!
My husband promised me he’d build one, but the end result has exceeded all my expectations.
It’s a wonderful environment where I can get on with working from home in a peaceful and calm setting, well away from the hustle and bustle of our busy household full of teenagers and dogs!
And it seems I’m not the only one who has discovered the benefits of homeworking.
Shropshire is in fact renowned for its thriving network of entrepreneurs and sole traders who are all beavering away behind the scenes, but this trend brings its own risks too.
More than 1.7 million microbusinesses across the UK have been hit by theft, vandalism or damage over the past 12 months – and more than one in three of those traders had failed to take out any insurance to protect themselves.
The worrying thing is that in many cases, it can take up to a month for a home-based business or shedworker to get fully operational again after being the victim of a crime.
And, of course, if you’re not able to work, you’re losing money which could result in potentially critical cashflow problems.
Through my role with Henshalls, I know how vital it is to find the right cover to suit your individual circumstances too, as no two policies are the same, so my colleagues have helped me to choose the best policy for my needs.
It’s great to be able to work with the team here as they’ve had many years’ experience in matching cover to a wide range of clients, so protecting my shiny new office has been a quick and easy process.
If, like me, you’re one of those lucky enough to be able to work from home, wouldn’t you feel better if you had protection in place to safeguard you from the most common risks and liabilities?
It has certainly given me peace of mind that my little palace at the bottom of the garden is a safe haven and that my business is on the right track, no matter what the future brings.
Being under-insured can jeopardise the very future of your small business, so take my advice – talk to the experts and get your insurance sorted out.
I’m off to the bottom of the garden! Happy New Year – Happy New Shed!
