And the Winner is…

They say lightning doesn’t strike twice but I’m actually hoping it might!

You see, I’ve just been nominated for a Bizmum Award.

Bix Mums nominee badge 2014And I’m under pressure to do well, because I actually WON last year, so I’ve set myself a pretty tough act to follow!

This year I’ve been nominated for Networking Mum of the Year, which is fantastic because that’s exactly what I do every day network.

The fundamental principle of networking is helping someone else first as this is what builds reputation and goodwill.

Jenny Osbourne - Biz Mums winner 2013And over time, I’ve found there are very few problems that can’t be sorted by talking through solutions and ideas.

Networking plays a crucial role in my job at Henshalls as insurance is notorious for being seen as a taboo subject in general conversations, and yet many people could do with talking about it more to help them understand exactly what cover they need to operate their business.

So my easy-going, jargon-free approach is a determined effort to change people’s opinions, and to break down the barriers people face.

People have also said that they find me friendly yet professional, and so they feel more at ease when it comes to talking to me on a one-to-one basis about the insurance they need.

It also helps that I love to socialise and I regularly meet up with people over coffee and cake, as well as via email and social media, and of course on the good old-fashioned telephone.

Part of my role is to offer regular tips and advice on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn too, and to give presentations at all kinds of networking events.

My busy networking schedule has now led to me being offered a really exiting position with WiRE (Women in Rural Enterprise) as their key insurance adviser, so my knowledge is set to be put to the test on a wider countrywide basis.

Whether it’s Bizmums, WiRE, Network with Style, Ladies in Business, FSB, Shrewsbury Business Chamber, Telford Business Club, Telford Luncheon Club, Shropshire Business Week, Getting Social in Shropshire, or the Cake Appreciation Society, the list of organisations I’m involved in is growing by the day!

So I’m hoping the judges at the Bizmums Awards on October 4th decide that I’m the winner of what is looking like a pretty tough category.

Keep your fingers crossed and wish me luck!
