Time flies when you’re having fun!

I can’t quite believe it where does the time go?

Alarm clockOne minute I was a fresh-faced 26-year-old accountant celebrating the birth of my eldest child.

And now, in what seems like a “blink and you’ve missed it” kind of situation, I’ve actually notched up 26 years’ service with Henshalls!

I had worked my way up to the dizzy heights of a chief cashier position with the TSB when I was first approached to join the rapidly expanding business, but it was clear from the start that Henshalls was something special so I didn’t hesitate to sign up.

Having always loved working with numbers, the position of accountant was a dream come true for me, and my work here continues to inspire me every day.

In fact the community focus and commitment to delivering the very highest level of customer service at all times was a definite factor in my decision to join forces with the other directors to buy the company outright in 1999.

And since “the takeover”, we’ve gone from strength to strength, even celebrating our busiest year of trading right in the middle of a Recession.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out why Henshalls is a success either.

It’s all down to people our staff and our clients.

I’m a firm believer in the old adage: “We’re all in this together” hmm I think I’ve heard that somewhere before…

But at Henshalls, we really mean it. Our staff work with us, not for us, and our philosophy of investing in people has meant the majority of our team have stayed with us for over 20 years.

Of course, there have been challenges along the way. We’ve already mentioned the Recession, and the insurance industry is renowned for its ever-changing criteria and rules and regulations. Sometimes it seems as though we’re jumping through interminable hoops.

And on a more personal level, I’ve just completed what has been my biggest challenge yet.

You see, we’ve invested in a brand new all-singing all-dancing hi-tech computer system, and yours truly has overseen the entire project from researching and sourcing the equipment, to its installation, and the inevitable staff training required to get to grips with it.

If I had any hair left it would definitely have turned grey by now!

But there’s now light at the end of the tunnel with everything in place and with progress being made every day. So it may seem like 26 years has gone by in a heartbeat, but when I look back it’s incredible how much we’ve all achieved and here’s to the next 26! Cheers!
