There’s no place to hide…

We’ve all seen the increase in CCTV cameras in our towns and cities, and there’s all that talk about people “monitoring our social media activities at every turn.
Yes indeed, sometimes it does feel as though “Big Brother” is always watching and of course, the saying goes “if you’ve done nothing wrong, you’ve got nothing to be worried about.
Well it seems that now, for once, Big Brother might be about to do us all a big favour.
There are plans for every motorist’s driving records to be put online as part of a massive Government database, which at first hearing, might not sound like a good thing.
But in fact, it’s a move that could actually reduce car insurance premiums which has got to be good news for all of us cash-strapped drivers out there.
You might be wondering how this could possible come about well it means that insurance companies would no longer have to rely on motorists to give them accurate information about their driving history.
The searchable database will allow individuals and companies to check speeding endorsements, as well as other details such as what kind of car a driver is allowed to drive, which could also bring down the cost of car hire.
Now I’m usually all for keeping private things under wraps after all, who wants people poking around in their private business?
But this sounds like a move that could really make a difference and one that will stop the age-old approach of insurance companies assuming we’re all lying in order to get a cheaper quote.
As things stand, insurers can only check licence details when they offer quotes or sell policies because they have to go through the DVLA call centre and who wants to bother with that lengthy and expensive performance for every case?
So instead, they assume that some drivers will lie about the endorsements on their licence to get a lower quote, or that some will make a mistake on how many points they actually have and raise all their prices to cover themselves.
