Hot Air

I was told, by email, that if you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.

Now being honest, I cannot verify whether that is true or not, but I’m also pretty sure you can’t disprove it either.    However, for the sake of this argument, let’s accept it as close to the truth.
However, on the same basis, it is also true that if you consistently broke wind for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.
So, ‘hot air‘ is both useless but also very dangerous!
Take the economic crisis in Greece at the moment.   At the time of writing their government is making us all very nervous about the future of the European economy.    Unfortunately the hot air produced by their procrastinations has resulted in the financial markets ‘plunging’ because of what MIGHT happen i.e. not what has happened, or even what is likely to happen.   In fact, as I write the indexes are at the same level they were a few months ago.    Rather than report this, the ‘hot air brigade’ are no doubt putting armogedin into their spell-checkers.
Take the huge number of racism stories coming out of professional football at the moment.   Well, take both of them.    Is racism endemic in football at the moment, or is it just the usual story of a few bad apples?   On the basis of the huge cloud of hot air around these stories it must be rampant?
Rather predictably, I’m going to bring my argument closer to home.     Unfortunately, your local providers cannot generate the hot air that the huge national and international companies can.    You will not see an advert from your local butcher on peak time TV offering you £5 off your next shop over £50; Your local book shop won’t appear in a full page ad in your daily broad-sheet offering you 3 for 2 on Spotty Potter; I’m afraid Henshalls marketing budget hasn’t stretched to producing hundreds of thousands of furry toys to back up our relentless advertising campaign for insurance.    So you won’t be surprised that if and when a huge supermarket appears on the edge of town you will hear plenty of good things about it.
So, to those discerning readers of Nova News I say this beware hot air!
Big is not always beautiful or cheap.
How often is ‘Direct’ really cheaper?
How enjoyable is your shopping experience?
What price consistent and accessible service?
Buying local is not a charitable deed it makes sense for you, your pocket, and your Peace of Mind.
